Master of Ceremonies - Peter Buckley
Peter Buckley works with top corporate entities as Keynote Speaker, MC, Voice Artist, and Presentation Skills and Media Skills Coach and Mentor.
He is a top line communicator, testament being his radio career that spanned 24 years "on-air". Twelve years were spent at Austereo’s Brisbane’s B105, during its halcyon number 1 ratings period, where he was Assistant News Director. That was preceded by a stint as News Director at FM104/MMM.
Peter delivers Keynote Presentations, MC’s or Facilitates conferences, seminars and events and hosted the Brisbane Broncos’ game-day Boardroom Functions at Suncorp Stadium.
Roger Bayley
Roger is a strong advocate for sustainable building practices, and has extensive experience as a Green Building leader and educator at conferences on the national and international scale. He is the principal of Roger Bayley Inc., which he founded in 2009 with the aim of harnessing the skills of forward-thinking developers, planners, architects and visionaries to create innovative green buildings and master-planned communities. Roger’s experience spans 40 years of senior-level project design and management. As a founding principal of Merrick Architecture in (which grew from four to seventy employees during his tenure), he was responsible for project design, value engineering, quality control and project management. From 2006 to 2010 he was the design manager for the Millennium Water Olympic Village in Vancouver, Canada’s first LEED™ certified Platinum neighbourhood and the largest sustainable community in North America. Roger offers his clients proven expertise in addressing issues such as climate change, urban planning, passive design, healthy communities and energy management in our built environment. Drawing on his own considerable experience – as well as the knowledge of consultants and fellow experts– he helps clients develop innovative solutions that exemplify a new way forward.
Sue Holliday
Sue Holliday is the Managing Director of Strategies for Change. Sue’s career ranges from academic research through to 25 years of public sector experience in the field of urban planning and development. She has worked as a private strategic consultant working in the field of urban change since 2003. She is an astute and well regarded manager of people, a lateral thinker, and an energetic and creative business woman. Her public sector career has equipped her to advise and lead politically sensitive organisations with complex bottom lines, to lead organisational change programs, and to help organisations grow effective and skilled teams. Her experience, professionalism, organisational insights, and people skills make her career quite exceptional and make her a valuable potential Board member or Strategic Advisor in government or businesses related to urban change, the environment, infrastructure or transport, or those with challenging public policy activities.
Paul Pholeros
Adjunct Professor Paul Pholeros, graduate and former first year design co-ordinator, was honoured on Australia Day 2007 with the AUSTRALIA MEDAL AM in recognition for his persistence and outstanding service to the health and well-being of the Indigenous population of Australia and the Torres Strait Islands.
With his partners, Dr. Paul Torzillo AM from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and another Adjunct Professor and Stephan Rainow, Anthropologist and environmental health officer, based at Alice Springs, they responded to the heartfelt request from Desert Elder, Yami Lester, to fix Aboriginal homes to foster washing babies and children, and clothes, to prevent cross infection, and to repair ‘health hardware’, covering all electrical and plumbing services, and including safe refrigeration and pest control in the kitchen. They formed the company ‘Healthabitat’ and launched the services FIXING HOUSES FOR BETTER HEALTH, based upon their research and publication containing the 9 HEALTH LIVING PRACTICES, washing people, washing clothes, removing waste, improving nutrition, reducing crowding, separating people from animals, vermin or insects, reducing dust, controlling temperature, and reducing trauma. 4500 HOMES FIXED OVER 5 YEARS.
Paul and the Healthabitat team, including graduates from Yooroang Garang, Health Sciences and
Architecture, his alma mater, have documented enough evidence based health improvements to continue this work on another 5000 homes over the next 5 years.
David Singleton
David Singleton has experience in leading the growth and development of the global business of Arup in 40 countries. His career has spanned executive leadership as CEO and Chairman of Arup Australasia [1996-2004] and global roles as Chairman of Arup’s global Infrastructure business [2004-2011] and Leader of Arup’s global Planning business [from April 2011]. He was a founding member of the Arup Group Board, where he was responsible for the strategic leadership and growth of the global organisation over a decade [2001-2011].
David is currently a Director of Standards Australia Ltd and Australian Green Infrastructure Council. He is a Member of Living with Environmental Change Strategy Board, UK and a Member, Advisory Board, University of Cambridge Program for Sustainability Leadership. His previous non-executive experience includes: Chair, Australian Construction Industry Forum; Director, Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation; and President and Chair, Association of Consulting Engineers Australia.
David Singleton has proven strategic, operational and commercial skills developed in high profile and complex project environments in the development planning, infrastructure and built environment sectors. A visionary leader, he created the sustainability strategy and policy framework that Arup applies today across its global operations. As one of Arup’s global leaders for the past decade he has developed foresight in understanding and addressing emerging systemic issues.
Sara Stace

Sara Stace is a Director of National Urban Policy in the Major Cities Unit, Department of Infrastructure and Transport. After graduating Architecture at the University of Western Australia, Sara worked at Alexander Tzannes Associates in Sydney for four years before undertaking an MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management. While studying she worked with the NSW Government Architect’s office on coordinating the Year of the Built Environment in 2004. She then travelled to Europe and worked in London for Jestico + Whiles. On returning to Australia she worked as General Manager of an ASX-listed property fund in Perth before commencing her role with the Commonwealth Government in Sydney from late 2008.
Deborah Dearing
Dr Deborah Dearing is the National Manager Strategic Urban Planning for Stockland, one of Australia’s leading diversified property groups, and a Past-President of the Institute of Architects NSW. Deborah has over 25 years experience in all planning and design aspects of urban development including the delivery of large-scale urban communities. She has extensive experience with both the private and public sectors in Australia and overseas. She was the founding Director of the NSW Urban Design Advisory Service. Later, as an Executive Director of the Department of Urban Affairs and planning, she was responsible for the implementation of planning policies and projects across Metropolitan Sydney. In that role she also steered the delivery of the NSW Premier’s Design Quality Program for residential flat buildings. She has been a Board member of numerous public and private organisations, including the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and City West Housing Ltd.
David Marks
David Marks Managing Director, Marks Barfield Architects, United Kingdom, was educated at the International School of Geneva and the Architectural Association in London. After spending 7 years at Richard Rogers and Partners he co-founded Marks Barfield Architects with Julia Barfield in 1984.
In 1994 David and Julia founded the London Eye Company and demonstrated a sophisticated business capability in which the roles of architect, client and entrepreneur were skillfully combined. The London Eye has become the most popular attraction in the UK and is recognised as a new symbol of London and the UK.
In 2000 David was made an MBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours List, and received the Prince Philip Special Commendation for Outstanding Achievement in Design for Business and Society. In 2001 David was awarded the Faculty of Building Trophy for outstanding work in the field of construction, and Marks Barfield received The Building Architectural Practice of the Year Award. In 2003 Marks Barfield received the Queens Award for Enterprise (Innovation). From 2002 to 2007 David was Chairman of the Waterloo Project Board, a regeneration program in London SE1. In 2007 David was elected a Fellow of the RSA. In 2009 Marks Barfield received the Sports and Leisure Architect of the Year Award.
Mr Tim Williams
Tim worked in France from 1988-1994 during the ‘Grand Projets’ period, instigated by François Mitterrand. . On his return to Sydney, he became the Urban Designer for the City of Sydney’s City Projects team.
Since 1998 Tim’s practice has been providing urban design and architectural services to mainly public clients including the NSW Departments of Planning, Commerce, Education and Training and Public Authorities such as Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Sydney Ports, and Sydney Water as well as to numerous city and regional Councils.
The “Grand Pari de L’agglomeration Parisienne” consultation, instigated by President Sarkozy, was little reported in Australia. Tim began research on the subject in 2009. His talk entitled, “Le Grand Pari(s), Design Led Solutions for a Post Kyoto Metropolis”, given during the 2010 Sydney Architecture Festival, was repeated due to popular demand.
In 2010, Tim was awarded a Byera Hadley Travelling scholarship, allowing him to continue his research on the outcomes of the Grand Paris Consultation. Tim met with each of the ten teams involved with the consultation as well as the office that coordinates the outcomes. His knowledge and understanding of the process and its outcomes is profound.
